H2020 SME Innovation Associate supports SMEs and start-ups that want to hire researchers to develop a business idea. This program aims to boost employment among researchers and to foster innovation in European SMEs.
What kind of support SMEs will get?
The European Commission offers an individual grant that covers the costs of the first year of employment of a non-national researcher in the period between September 2017 and August 2018. In addition, the program will make your job vacancy visible all around Europe and abroand and provide a training programme to assure a smooth integration.
Interested SMEs and start-ups can submit their proposals before 30 June 2016 to European SME innovation Associate call (INNOSUP-02-2016). Before this date, these companies can test the interest of the vacancy publishing a job offer on EURAXESS, which will be conditional to the awarding of the grant. Once the Commission selects the beneficiaries, the selection process will start and the research staff will be incorporated from September 2017.
How can researchers benefit?
The program will support researchers who are interested in transforming an innovative idea into a research and/or innovation project. Apart from the 1 year subsidized contract, beneficiaries will have a training program and coaching. Those interested can begin to search such job offers on EURAXESS, but the selection of candidates will be between 1 March and 30 April 2017. The requirements to participate are:
- PhD holder or equivalent (Recognised Researcher R2 level minimum);
- Demonstrated expertise in line with the job advertisement;
- Transnational mobility as defined in the mobility rule of the Marie Slodowska Curie Actions (MSCA): “at the time of recruitment, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country where the SME is established for no more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the reference date. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account”
